Device - Use audio in Smode

An Audio Device lets Smode output sound, and react to an audio input.
If you do not want to select a specific Audio device and simply use the Windows input and output settings, select "Direct Sound Primary Sound Driver".

To set an audio device (input or output), navigate to EDIT > Preferences (F11)Edit Smode's Preferences > Engine" or press "F11". Add a device in one of these sections:

Parameters to all Audio Devices

  • Buffer Size (Audio Device Buffer Size) : Buffer size of the audio device. The higher this value is, the higher the latency will be. The lower this value is, the higher the risk of audible audio cracks will be (especially if the driver or host computer has performance issues). For high latency usage, consider to use the low performance footprint ASIO drivers. Note that with some device or driver, like Tascam ASIO for instance, the buffer size choice contains only a unique value, set in the device setting panel. So, use the manufacturer settings panel if you need to change this value.
    If audio cracks persists, check your audio file buffer settings

  • Sample Rate (Audio Device Sample Rate) : Sample rate of the audio device, in number of samples per second
  • Compute Waveform And Spectrum (On/off option) : Activate the computing of the waveform and spectrum for further analysis. Can be costly, but required for audio extraction.
  • Input Latency in Samples (Positive Number) : Input latency of the audio device (Read Only): Displays the latency of input channels (in number of samples)
  • Output Latency in Samples (Positive Number) : Output latency of the audio device (Read Only): Displays the latency of output channels (in number of samples)
  • Input Gain (Decibel) : Input gain of the audio device (in Decibels)
  • Output Gain (Decibel) : Output gain of the audio device (in Decibels)
