Seamless integration in any live environment!

Instead of dealing exclusively with static pre-rendered video content, SMODE compositions could be thought of as a visual instruments: they have exposed parameters providing high-level control over the content, such as switching from ‘summer to winter’, playing with the ‘position of the sun’ or changing the ‘rate of snow’.

Artists expose these parameters and define their behavior, while operators link them to physical controllers such as MIDI consoles and lighting desks in order to gain live control over them, in a live situation.

Beyond exposing parameters, SMODE supports a wide range of protocols for integrating itself smoothly into advanced A/V fixed installations, shows, and broadcast environments: low-latency video inputs and outputs, support of industry standard tracking systems and 3D engines, network control, LTC/MTC clocks, DMX fixture control, and show control.

Turn graphical parameters into physical controllers

Pick a parameter, expose it, move your controller, bind it. That’s it: you just turned your composition into something interactive that can be controlled physically.

It’s the same logic for all parameters, from

triggering the playback of a video file content to advanced color and texture changes or modulation of the way the animations run.

SMODE supports a wide range of control means, from the industry standard lighting desks to widely affordable MIDI consoles and generic OSC and UDP protocols.

Low-latency video inputs and outputs

Every frame of latency matters! SMODE has dedicated and highly optimized implementations for DeltaCast and Blackmagic video input and output cards, enabling a SMODE media server to have native SDI, DisplayPort and HDMI inputs and outputs.

Thanks to the GPU Direct technology, the images follow a straight path from the input capture card to the GPU and then back to the output card, enabling the whole system to have an input-to-output overall latency of 3 frames, making it suitable to live applications with lip sync.

In addition to those hardware input and output video feeds, SMODE does support network video feeds via NDI and local sharing of textures via Spout.

Integrate with industry standard tracking systems

Track actors and objects to let content interact with them, track the audience in a room for an immersive and interactive experience, track the camera position and orientation to merge real and virtual worlds with extended reality.

SMODE has native support for major industry-standard tracking systems, as well as generic protocols such as FreeD and PosiStageNet, in order to cover any eventuality.

Connect with Unreal Engine

Connect SMODE with the industry leading 3D engine from EPIC: Unreal Engine.

  • Simply import the SMODE Plugin for Unreal into the Unreal maps. Select which actors and components you want to expose.
  • Drag & drop the Unreal maps in SMODE.
  • Mix the content with SMODE compositing or modify the exposed actors and components.
  • Launch NDisplay, activate the map directly from SMODE and get the render back.

Connect with Notch

The ultimate end-to-end real-time workflow.

Combining Notch with SMODE is a bit like combining a powerful raytracer with a compositing tool performing post-processing, except everything runs smoothly in real-time!

  • Notch blocks can be interpreted by SMODE as either post-effects, 2D content layers, or 3D scenes.
  • Notch and SMODE can be deeply combined into to form a whole pipeline mixing real-time generation with real-time compositing.
  • Multiple notch blocks can be instantiated and composited together.
  • Support for side by side front & back plate rendering for extended reality.

Don’t wait … become a Snotcher!

Always be in sync and able to scale!

SMODE is frame-accurate thanks to support of genlock.

SMODE is capable of interpreting various external time code clock sources such as LTC audio time code (LTC) and midi time code (MTC).

SMODE is scalable thanks to its SMODE-NET protocol for seamlessly multiplying the number of servers processing the show.
