The choice of SMODE for the set and on-air graphics made it possible to replace an old system requiring 20 to 30 different machines with only 4 servers to power the 28 HD displays that compose the set, as well as the entire on-air graphics. Historically associated with Novelty, Studio Grenelle had all the technical knowledge to correctly implement this true technological renovation.

"Replacing the 20 to 30 machines of the previous system with the 4 SMODE servers has reduced the floor space in the node, as well as the carbon footprint. This is something that can be seen both in the consumption of the UPS and in the air conditioning required in the node."

Two servers are needed for the set layout. One server is in charge of the first 16 screens, while the other one is managing the last 12 screens. Each server has 4 video inputs allowing the resumption of live streams on the screens. An additional server acts as a spare machine for any link in the SMODE chain. The entire chain is synchronized, allowing one server to send commands to the others.

On the on-air graphics side, the server outputs 2 Fill/key for broadcasting lower third, alpha-layer graphics or logos. 2 simple players are also used, allowing them to be used as a backdrop for multi-feeding.
SMODE's real-time compositing tool allows you to create your own titles and other dynamic content integration, all programmable via a simple midi or streamdeck interface.

"The great strength of SMODE is to offer a complete view of the project on a single interface and to be able to navigate between a global view of the system and very specific views of certain elements."
To go further, the servers will eventually send their own artnet data to the lighting set, allowing them to switch from one visual environment to another with a click. SMODE's open system has allowed the new team in charge of the technical direction to open a new field of possibilities for this studio, including augmented reality!
